In our education, stress is laid on the result, and not on the way of achieving it; even though it be at the expense of greater effort than is really necessary. At the higher level of effort, one cannot detect small differences; therefore, it is impossibly to improve beyond a certain stage.  Thus things are self-perpetuating; the crude kinesthetic sense tends to become cruder and cruder, the finer one tends to become finer yet.
